VALENTINE'S DAY

Valentine's Day is celebrated on 14th February.

It is a festival of love and it's a very popular celebration in many countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Denmark, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In the past it was a celebration of romantic love but at present times it extends to the relations of friendship between people too and children celebrate this day at school.

VALENTINE'S DAY TRADITIONS


A very popular tradition is Valentine's cards. 

Children write cards for their parents and friends.


Young people make handmade cards and write love poems or rhymes on them for their girlfriends and boyfriends.
Many people give cards, letters, flowers (especially red roses), chocolates, rings or other presents to the person they love. They sometimes have a romantic dinner for two at home or in a restaurant or a night in a hotel.

  


Parents, families and groups of friends sometimes send Valentine's cards too. 

Valentine's cards are often decorated with images of hearts, red roses or Cupid, the Roman god of LOVE.


Traditionally cards and love messages were anonymous, especially in the UK, but today people often sign the cards.


RED is the colour of LOVE.

SONG: LOVE IS ALL AROUND By WET WET WET

Wet Wet Wet are a Scottish soft rock band that formed in the 1980s. They are probably best known for their 1994 hit "Love Is All Around". This theme was used on the soundtrack to the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. It was a great international success and was fifteen weeks on top the British charts.
