NEW YEAR'S EVE CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS

Today is 31st December. It's NEW YEAR'S EVE !!!
Many countries celebrate New Year on 1st January in different ways. Celebrations start on the New Year's Eve on December 31st. Hotels, restaurants, clubs and pubs organize New Year Eve parties. People sing, dance and have fun.

And just when the clock strikes midnight ( 12 o'clock ) everyone join hands and sing a traditional old song "Auld Lang Syne". It's poem written by Robert Burns, the national poet of Scotland, in 1788 and it is very popular in English- speaking countries.
People sing this song to celebrate the start of the New Year, but also in emotional moments, at funerals, graduations and as a farewell or ending to other occasions.

Here you have a version with English and Spanish subtitles, so that you can understand the lyrics.

Here you can listen and read two different subtitled versions adapted to today's English. Which one do you like best?

People kiss, drink champagne and say " Happy New Year". With loved ones and friends at a distance people exchange greetings through SMSs, Whatsapps and phone calls.

And YOU? What do you do on New Year's Eve?
Write a comment and tell me !!!

SONG: ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU

This is a romantic song by Mariah Carey. Here you can watch 2 different versions. Choose the video you like best and sing along!

Mariah Carey duet with Justin Bieber at a department store. 2011

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
baby

Oh I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
baby

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I
really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me

I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas... is you

With subtitles, so that you can sing along!
