INTERNATIONAL WORKERS' DAY

Worker’s Day or Labour Day, is commemorated in most countries on May 1st except for Canada and the United States who celebrate it on the first week of September. It is a holiday in honour of workers.

This is Peter McGuire, a New York City carpenter and labour leader. He is considered the "father" of Labour Day because he proposed the idea to create a special holiday for workers.

On Tuesday, September 5th, 1882, more than 10,000 workers hit the streets of New York City for the first ever Labour Day parade. Two years later the celebration was moved to the first Monday in September. And in 1894, the American Congress passed a law making Labour Day a national holiday.
