She saved her family and about a hundred tourists from the tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.Tilly learned about tsunamis in a geography lesson at school two weeks before the tsunami from her teacher Andrew Kearney
On Sunday, 26th December 2004 Tilly and her family were at Maikhao Beach (Thailand)She recognised the symptoms of a tsunami and alerted her parents and people on the beach. Everyone ran to the hotel and the beach was evacuated.

The tsunami affected different countries: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Maldives, Somalia ... and killed over 230,000 people. There were waves up to 30 metres high.
